Opened in 1924 and relocated to 877 S. Figueroa in 1950, the Original Pantry Cafe became a Los Angeles institution, eventually earning Historic-Cultural Monument status (#255) and the title of the city’s most famous restaurant. Owned for decades by former Mayor Richard Riordan, it served everyone from celebrities to politicians. After 101 years of nonstop service, the Pantry sadly closed its doors on March 2, 2025, amid a labor dispute and property sale, marking the end of an iconic era.
