A TWA diorama poster from 1949 was created using photographs of a diorama. The poster is considered rare and is an original vintage item, not a reproduction. The poster is linen-backed and in excellent condition. The collection may include other related posters, such as airplane exhibition posters from the early 20th century. Artist: Rex Werner. From 1947 to 1964 he was the TWA Art Director becoming Director of Corporate Design in 1964 and later Vice President of Design. He was an avid artist creating many “dioramas” which rival the best computer animation of today. TWA (Trans World Airlines) was formed in 1924 as Transcontinental & Western Air. The airline's first route was from New York to Los Angeles, followed by multiple National routes. The airline expanded to serve Europe, the Middle East, and Asia after WWII, when the company was under Howard Hughes's ownership from 1939 until 1961. Hughes was a dominant force in expanding and promoting his company's routes. The economy was vastly improving, and air travel for business and pleasure increased as well. Posters were a crucial element in promoting this form of travel and TWA. The airline began a decline in the 1970s, culminating in a third bankruptcy and its acquisition by American Airlines in 2001.
