Inspired by President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union address, the series illustrated four fundamental human rights: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear. First published in The Saturday Evening Post in 1943, Rockwell’s painting shows a multigenerational American family gathered around the table as a holiday turkey is presented.
