The company's mission was to provide local workers and gentry with high quality boots; initially mostly rubber boots. Le Chameau stands for 'the camel'. The brand was started in 1927 by Claude Chamout from the area of Cherbourg. The boots are made by hand by one single master bootmaker. The Le Chameau is considered a luxury brand and carried a higher price tag. Kate Middleton was wearing a premiur pair of these Le Chameau boots at her husband's soccer match.
