Gruau was most famous for his beautiful women in the Moulin Rouge and Lido posters; a incredible Air France and Bemberg Italian fashion posters. Men were usually associated with the Christian Dior advertisement such as this one of his famous nude men. Eau Sauvage’s elegance was undeniable. Artist and fashion illustrator René Gruau captured this style in his portraits commissioned by Christian Dior to accompany the perfume’s advertising. Throughout the 1960s and 70s the definition of masculinity evolved and Gruau’s bold illustrations of male nudes. Gruau also revolutionized the concept of masculinity and the imagery of the modern man and this is what A-Gent of Style would like to focus on today. Some of his images of partial male nudity were considered shocking even revolutionary at the time, like for instance the 1966 adverts for Guerlain’s Eau Sauvage after-shave featuring a man in various states of undress. René Gruau is now the subject of a beautiful book Gruau: Portraits of Men that was published last year by Assouline. This poster has been archival mounted on linen. It is in excellent condition. This is a great modern ad designed by one of our favorite artists, Rene Gruau, to advertise cologne for men. It would be a powerful addition to the bedroom, or even a men's clothing store. Dior was instrumental in commercializing Parisian fashion on a worldwide scale. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.|
