| Additional Information: | Original S. S. United States lithographc print archival linen backed, in fine condition, and ready to frame. Horizontal format. The image features the S. S. United States at sea with its dual smoke stacks, a orange pink sunset, and a small sailboat passing along side. At 990 feet long, the SS United States is the equivalent of the Chrysler Building laid on its side. A monument to the American can-do spirit… The SS United States represents our common values, our strengths, and the epic scope and scale of our ambition. With its maiden voyage in 1952, the United States became the fastest ocean liner to ever cross the Atlantic, and at 100 feet longer than the RMS Titanic, the largest ever entirely made in America. Once the pinnacle of American design, technological innovation and luxury, the SS United States had a top-secret secondary identity as the world’s fastest troop transport ship, designed as part of a Cold War Pentagon program. The ship will be repurposed as a permanently-moored floatingstructure anchored by a hotel program and a collection of unique hospitality and cultural spaces in the 600,000 square feet available for development. The final docking location for this project is still underway as of 2021. Aylward was known for his boats and seascapes as well as military posters that were created during WW1. He was a war artist for the United States Army during World War I.
