Beautiful foam capped waves roll in from a sea of blues and greens, where not only the ship of Captain cook is waiting, but his men on boats and the Hawaiians in their canoes. On land, the native people are preparing a feast of welcome, this image is vibrant, and a feast for the eyes. This is a 9 color lithograph. The original painting hangs in the Smithsonian Institute as a permanent display. This poster is not linen backed as it was part of the menus on the cruise ships. Antique posters are 'pictures of persuasion,' as we might call them, offer a wealth of art, history, design, and popular culture for us to understand. The poster is a familiar part of our world, and we intuitively understand its role as propaganda, promotion, announcement, or advertisement."
