| Additional Information: | Original Munich 1972 Olympic vintage poster. It shows the Kanu Slalom, or white water canoeing, which was held in Augsburg for the 1972 Olympics. The whitewater canoeing in 1972 was held at a specially constructed facility in Augsburg, Bavaria. Photographer: Erich Baumann. Archival linen backed and ready to frame. It is in good condition, but as the images show, there is a nick near the bottom left and a corner crease in the right corner. Note that the background uses silver ink in the design. The significant change to the 1972 Olympic canoeing program was the addition of slalom (or whitewater) events for men and women. Whitewater canoeing was removed from the Olympic Program after the 1972 Olympics, only to return in 1992, which seems permanent. Whitewater canoeing first began in Switzerland on the Aar River in 1933. World championships in whitewater (slalom) canoeing begin in 1949. Otl H. Aicher of Ulm, who served as art director for the event, specified that all the individual sports posters start with a photograph.
