A genuine piece of Olympic and graphic design history, this original Innsbruck 1976 Winter Olympic Games poster was designed by renowned Austrian graphic designer Arthur Zelger. Guided by the principle of not highlighting any single sport, Zelger created a brilliantly “neutral” image centered on a stylized skate — a unifying symbol for all winter disciplines. Within this single dynamic form, one can read a ski run, a sled or bobsleigh track, and a skate blade. The clean white rectangle at the tip of the form subtly forms the letter “I” for Innsbruck, while the colorful peaks in the background evoke the Tyrolean mountains surrounding the host city.
