Regarding the Tribunal de la Haye: On 14 August 1898, Nikolai Muraviov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tsar Nicholas II, addressed a letter to Pope Leo XIII expressing his wish for an international conference "to put an end to the continuous armaments and to seek means of preventing calamities Which threaten the whole world ". Russia wished to associate the Holy See with it. Regarding the liquor brand for Giffard Distilleries in Angers, (Loire Valley) France. The mint flavored liquor, La Menthe- Pastille, was first produced in 1885 by pharmacist, Emile Giffard and still exists today. A note of importance is that Uncle Sam is holding a glass of the liquor to the black baby's mouth. In French posters the glass nor the bottle is allowed to touch the lips in any advertisement. Perhaps because it is Uncle Sam holding the glass that the poster was printed with a liquor touching the lips of another! This is an Original Lithograph Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition.
