As the 2016 Olympic Summer Games are heating up in Brazil, we look back to past vintage Olympic by German graphic designer Otl (Otto) Aicher.

Munich Olympics: Gymnastics by Otl (Otto) Aicher
Authentic Vintage Poster From the 1972 Munich Olympics.

The posters for the Munich Olympics were designed by Otto ‘Otl’ Aicher. Otl Aicher was an illustrious German graphic designer and typographer whose mandate for the Olympic posters included the proviso that the visual identity of the ’72 games should avoid the use of red and black (which were traditionally associated with Nazi Germany). He devised a magnificent set of 24 posters, including the following vintage posters.

Munich Olympics: Track and Field (Large)

Munich Olympics: Yachting – Sailing (Large)

Munich Olympics: Equestrian (Large)

Munich Olympics: Fencing
