A horizontal format that is normally harder to find in the travel poster section. From the 1930s through the 1950s Shell produced a series of 'count on Shell' advertisements. They were usually displayed on the side of Shell trucks. This one in particular shows ruins from Uppark in Petersfield. This is truly a breathtaking image to see; arch stone ruins on a hill, with the countryside laid out behind it. And a bright blue cloudy sky with the tinges of yellows and pinks of a sunset behind the ruins. Uppark's story begins with the creation of a deer park in the 14th century, recorded in a later survey as 'Le Upparke, with pasture and wood.' By 1440, it was being leased as a pair - 'Up Parke and Down Parke' - but it's not until 1595 that a house is recorded here, built by the Ford family.
