Additional Information: Original “Le Jongleur de Notre Dame” vintage opera poster. The music was by Jules Massenet. Artist: Georges Rochengrosse. Archival linen backed in good condition, ready to frame. The poster was printed in 1904. First performed in Monte Carlo in 1902, there were no female roles until Mary Garden persuaded Massenet to adapt the tenor role of Jean, the Juggler, for her. At the feast of the Virgin Mary, a poor, emaciated juggler is blessed by the Virgin to come to life. Rochegrosse was also a member of the Societe des Artistes Francais. He became an officer of the Legion d"honeur in 1910 and enjoyed a long association with the Automobile Club of France, designing at least three posters for their yearly shows.
