Original linen backed, excellent condition, stone lithograph hunting poster created by Leonetto Cappiello. Printed posthumously, the design for this poster was actually created in the late 1930s. It was ultimately used to promote a hunting rifle by Darne, a company which did not focus on recreational weapons until after World War II. This is the smaller format version of the image. The firm contributed military weaponry in both World War I and World War II, but after 1945, the company went back to the sole manufacture of hunting rifles seeing as the armed forces were only allowed to purchase arms from nationalized companies". Bright and colorful showing a hunter firing his Fusil Darne shotgun. Printed by Devambez, Paris. This rare poster was designed by Cappiello in 1929 as a cover for the Darne gun company in France. In 1948 (6 years after Cappiello’s death) the company in cooperation with Devambez (Cappiello’s publisher) revived the image as a poster promoting their shotgun and it was made available to collectors through Devambez’s Paris.
