Additional Information: Photo lithograph, This is an original 1951 vintage poster announces the second Carrera Panamericana, the Mexican auto race that ran border-to-border on open roads. Carlo Vega creates a sense of modernity and speed in his highly stylized graphic that is firmly rooted in Art Deco design.

The Mexican government conceived this race to feature the opening of the Mexican section of the Panamerican Highway. The race started in Tuxtla in the south and traveled north on the highway to Juarez on the border with the United States. The first place team, driving a Ferrari, took just under 23 hours over six days to complete the grueling course.

In the five years that the event was held, it gained a reputation for its difficulty and took its place alongside the Targa Florio, the Mille Miglia and the Le Mans 24 Hours. Today, it remains a part of racing folklore.
