The First Generation
\n(post-World War II)<\/h3>\n

The founders of the Polish School of Posters were Eryk Lipinski<\/strong><\/a>, Jozef Mroszczak, Henryk Tomaszewski<\/strong><\/a> and Tadeusz Trepkowski. Each contributed to its unique style: a painter\u2019s palette, the quick sketch style \u2013 full of humor and unexpected associations, a strong feeling of color, surrealistic metaphors, concise composition & use of symbolism.<\/p>\n

These artists (born in the 1920s and 1930s) include Roman Cieslewicz<\/strong><\/a>, Wiktor Gorka<\/strong><\/a>, Hubert Hilscher<\/strong><\/a>, Jan Lenica<\/strong><\/a>, Jan Mlodozeniec<\/strong><\/a>, Marian Stachurski<\/strong><\/a>, Franciszek Starowieyski<\/strong><\/a>, Waldemar Swierzy<\/a><\/strong> and Maciej Urbaniec<\/strong><\/a>. \u00a0They<\/div>\n

continued the work of the First Generation but in a more restrained, intellectual style. Some artists of the second generation drew upon the fantastic and surreal while others favored abstraction. They popularized Polish poster art outside of Poland.<\/div>\n

\n This poster is included as Plate Number 78 in the Western Amerykanski book.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Third Generation
\n(the 1960s-1980s)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Born during and after World War II, artists include Jerzy Czerniawski<\/strong><\/a>, Stasys Eidrigevicius, Marek Freudenreich<\/strong><\/a>, Mieczyslaw Gorowski, Lech Majewski<\/strong><\/a>, Rafal Olbinski<\/strong><\/a>, Andrzej Pagowski<\/strong><\/a>, Wiktor Sadowski<\/strong><\/a>, Jan Sawka<\/strong><\/a> and Wieslaw Walkuski<\/strong><\/a>. They introduced more aggressive designs intended to surprise, provoke or disturb the viewers\u2019 beliefs and values, often through camouflaged political and\/or social messages. This generation firmly established the Polish School of Posters\u2019 recognition throughout the international art community.<\/p>\n
