When trying to get Hollywood studios to green light his science fiction serial, Star Wars, George Lucas submitted a draft of his script along with Ralph McQuarrie’s conceptual art as part of the pitch to Alan Ladd Jr., Studio Chief at\u00a020th Century Fox.\u00a0 Fox approved the budget and green lit the film.\u00a0\u00a0McQuarrie’s art, while not used in the promotional materials for the release of the film,\u00a0 pretty much established the look and style of Star Wars which we have all come to know.\u00a0 McQuarrie himself has been quoted as saying that his work\u00a0was never intended to be seen by anyone except for the crew involved in producing the film.\u00a0\u00a0After the enormous popularity of Star Wars, Ballantine Books, recognizing the potential commercial success of this art, released a commercial portfolio containing 21 of McQuarrie’s paintings.\u00a0 The portfolio including two pages of liner notes by Carol Wikarska, director of publications for Star Wars.\"\"<\/a>R2-D2 and C-3PO first arriving on Tatooine after their narrow escape from Imperial Stormtroopers
