Spending her formative years living in three culturally distinct countries shaped the creative eye of German-American photographer Ina Jungmann, whose work depicts cross-cultural life amid landscapes and cityscapes. The frequent need to learn how to communicate in new languages eventually drew her to visual communication and photography.<\/p>\n

Born in Germany, by age three Jungmann\u2019s family moved to Japan where she attended Japanese elementary school for three years before the family returned to Germany in 1995. Four years later they relocated to Santa Monica, California, and after completing high school she enrolled in UCLA and studied under acclaimed photographer James Welling.<\/p>\n

The summer before her senior year of college, Jungmann interned with renowned photographer Miyako Ishiuchi in Japan. After earning her B.A.in Visual Arts from UCLA in 2008, she returned to Germany to earn an M.A. in Photography by studying with noted photographer Rudolf Schafer at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design. In 2012, during a truncated class trip to Syria with Schafer, Jungmann captured what may be the final images of peaceful Syrian life just days before civil war erupted.<\/p>\n

Today, Jungmann\u2019s work depicts everyday moments across various cultures. Her current collection, \u201cSleeping Indian\u2014From California to New Mexico,\u201d explores the sometimes-overwhelming landscapes of the American west.<\/p>\n

Currently based in Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband, Jungmann continues exploring new terrain and producing distinctive works about the world around her.\u00a0 Her unique style has been influenced, refined, and distilled from her personal journey.<\/p>\n
