TREVOR CLARK

Trevor Clark´s working life of 60 years has been as a professional photographer – and today he is still very active in the profession – mainly supplying stock photo agencies around the world with new images….

He started photography as an assistant in a London studio – learning all aspects of the photographic business – both camera and darkroom techniques…..

At the age of 18 years he had to complete his 2 years of National Service – and he joined the Royal Air Force as a photographer – doing aerial, industrial and press photography…..

After that he was contracted as a promotional photographer on the first ever world cruises – New York to New York in 6 months, visiting 26 countries. This entailed photographing all the important sights in the world – the Taj Mahal, Pyramids of Egypt and Mexico, etc.etc. – to be used in brochures promoting these cruises…..

After 4 years he returned to London to further his career, and gradually eased into the world of advertising and fashion photography – and because his studio was in Soho – the centre of the pop music industry – during the “swinging sixties” he was photographing all the up and coming rock and pop stars for magazine spreads and for the managers of the artistes…..

In 1968 Trevor decided to make a radical move….. At this time there was a sudden demand for many photo shoots to be carried out on location in the Mediterranean area – so he decided to relocate to the island of Mallorca and continue his photographic career away from the studio and permanently on location – having available all year round sunshine – local models already tanned – and the facility to access every type of location….. Art directors from advertising agencies in cities in northern Europe could come over to do their photo shoots without the usual hassle, delays and expense…..

This was a resounding success – but because Mallorca is an important centre of tourism – he was soon also involved in promotional travel photography – entailing more world travel…. and he became a specialist in photography of super-yachts around the Mediterranean – for their lavish brochures….. During all these years he has been producing thousands of “stock” photos of sunshine ambience subjects to supply many “stock” picture libraries around the world…. Trevor still enjoys living and working here in Mallorca today – with the studio photography of the Beatles & Rolling Stones a distant memory.

Trevor Clark recently had some of his iconic images accepted to hang in the National Portrait Gallery in London.
