T.A.Z. aka Jim Evans to release new limited edition signed Queens Of The Stone Age poster exclusively through Limited Runs

T.A.Z. was called at the last minute to pull together a poster for a surprise Queens Of The Stone Age show at the Teragram Ballroom in Los Angeles. QOTSA is one of the few bands that T.A.Z. had never done a poster for, the tables were immediately cleared to create something unique. Songs For The Deaf has always been a studio favorite, so the main image was created with that album in mind. T.A.Z. revisited an older image of a female cyborg, hanging by straps, and being lubricated intravenously. The image was reworked and detailed, to achieve a stark singularity, and to get that chamber of lost souls affect that Josh multi-tracks into the grooves of Hanging Tree and Go With The Flow.

Once the image was chosen, the lettering was created. Initially a 3D extravaganza was designed, but because of the vertical nature of the art, the cool letterform had to be killed, and was replaced by something that allowed the art to show through – thus the spaceport neon lettering was decided on.

The background just needed to be space, so it could be anything. A split fountain was designed to light the bottom, and blend up to very dark at the top.

Unfortunately, time was up, the concert was only days away, and the silkscreen shop was not able to do it in the allotted time frame. At the last minute, black was given the okay, and probably created a much more atmospheric poster. The show itself was awesome.

On Thursday, October 8, 2015 Limited Runs and T.A.Z. (aka Jim Evans) will release limited signed Queens Of The Stone Age poster exclusively through Limited Runs  Each signed and numbered poster is a 7-color silkscreen print in an edition of 50.
