The Art Of Hitchcock

by Todd Klick on Thursday, May 29, 2014

Alfred Hitchcock directed over 60 films and television episodes (of his long running series ‘Alfred Hitchcock Presents’) and made many cameo appearances in his own movies.  The audience would wait to see where he would make his brief appear.  The film Lifeboat proved to be a challenge since the entire picture takes place on a lifeboat with several survivors of a torpedoed ship, but Hitch being the master of his craft solved that problem made, he appears using a photograph in a newspaper that floats by with other wreckage.  The original art from Hitchcock’s films can now make a permanent appearance in your collection. Colorful original vintage posters from the films of the Master of Suspense like Psycho, Vertigo, North By Northwest, Rope, To Catch A Thief, The Birds and Rear Window. Now you can own these original one sheets, three sheets, six sheets, half sheets, lobby cards and inserts from the thrillers of Britain’s greatest director. You’ll find no MacGuffins in our international inventory that spans the 1940s through the 1970s — only 100% authentic posters from the United States, Italy, France and many others.

Lifeboat (20th Century Fox – 1944)
This beautiful and colorful one sheet does not often come up for sale and is treasued by collectors.

Rear Window (Universal Pictures – 1954)
Considered to be one of Hitchcock’s best films, this one sheet is highly sought after by many collectors.

Suspicion (RKO R-1953)
This colorful one sheet is from the 1953 re-release of the film and features great artwork of Cary Grant and Joan Fontaine.

Rope (Warner Brothers – 1948)
An ambitious film by Hitchcock, his first Technicolor film which was shot so as to appear as a single continuous shot through the use of long takes. Because film stock only ran about 10 minutes per reel Hitchcock had to use cut away shots to make it appear as if it was one take by ending a segment  by panning into an object such as a man’s jacket blocking the entire screen, or the back of a piece of furniture, masking the cuts.  This French Grande features the colorful artwork Boris Grinsson which is probably the best image for this title.

Vertigo (Paramount Pictures – 1958)
This iconic poster designed by Saul Bass (and probably one of Bass’ best), is highly prized and sought after by movie poster collectors.

Frenzy (Universal Pictures – 1972)
This is a colorful Japanese poster for Alfred Hitchcock’s 1972 British crime thriller, often considered to be Hitchcock’s last great film.  Hitchcock only directed one more film, Family Plot in 1976.
